Description

Discover a wonderfully unconventional British comedy with Ann Droid (2026), a six-episode science fiction sitcom starring Diane Morgan, Sue Johnston, and Paul Ready.

Created and written by Diane Morgan and Sarah Kendall, and directed by Joseph Roberts, Ann Droid combines sharp British humor, awkward everyday situations, and a surprisingly touching story about grief, loneliness, family relationships, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in modern life.

Set in the near future, the series follows Sue, a recently widowed woman whose well-meaning son Michael decides that she needs some extra help around the house.

His solution is Linda, a secondhand AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot.

Unfortunately, Linda is not exactly the sophisticated technological companion Michael had imagined.

Overly attentive, socially awkward, and spectacularly bad at understanding human emotions, Linda has an extraordinary ability to turn ordinary situations into complete disasters.

But as Sue reluctantly adjusts to living with her unusual robotic companion, she begins to discover that friendship, laughter, and emotional connection can sometimes come from the most unexpected places.

Featuring Diane Morgan’s signature deadpan comedy and Sue Johnston’s heartfelt performance, Ann Droid offers a distinctive blend of futuristic satire and warmhearted British sitcom storytelling.

About the Series

Sue is a widow attempting to rebuild her life after the death of her husband, Dave.

Although she values her independence, adjusting to life alone has not been easy.

Her adult son, Michael, worries about leaving her by herself, particularly as he attempts to repair his own troubled marriage.

Determined to make sure his mother has the support she needs, Michael decides to purchase an advanced household companion.

Unfortunately, his budget leads him to a discontinued, secondhand model: the AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot.

The robot, named Linda, has been designed to assist elderly people with daily activities, monitor their well-being, and provide companionship.

On paper, Linda sounds like the perfect solution.

In reality, she is an unpredictable source of embarrassment, confusion, and chaos.

Linda’s programming encourages her to be constantly helpful, but her limited understanding of social situations means that she frequently makes matters worse.

Her attempts to assist Sue often result in awkward encounters, inappropriate comments, and increasingly ridiculous misunderstandings.

Sue initially finds Linda irritating and intrusive.

The robot seems incapable of recognizing when her assistance is unwanted, and her relentless enthusiasm disrupts Sue’s attempts to maintain a peaceful home.

However, Linda’s unconventional behavior gradually begins to influence Sue’s life in unexpected ways.

As the two spend more time together, Sue is encouraged to reconnect with the world beyond her home.

Their adventures lead them into a series of bizarre situations, including a disastrous charity shop visit, an ill-fated trip to the seaside, and an unforgettable camping excursion.

Meanwhile, Michael struggles with his own personal difficulties.

His efforts to repair his marriage to Renee become increasingly complicated, and his professional ambitions do not always go according to plan.

Although Michael originally introduced Linda to help his mother, he soon begins questioning whether the robot has created more problems than she has solved.

But Sue’s relationship with Linda is gradually changing.

Beneath the misunderstandings and absurd situations, the robot’s strange behavior begins to help Sue confront her grief and rediscover her confidence.

Linda may not understand human emotions in the conventional sense, but her unusual approach to companionship encourages Sue to reconsider what it means to live independently.

As the series progresses, their unlikely friendship becomes increasingly meaningful.

Through its combination of dry humor, emotional storytelling, and futuristic satire, Ann Droid explores the difference between technological assistance and genuine human connection.

The result is a British comedy that is both delightfully ridiculous and unexpectedly moving.

Episode 1 – A New Companion

Following the death of her husband, Sue is struggling to adjust to living alone.

When her son Michael decides to move out again, he surprises her with Linda, a secondhand humanoid eldercare robot.

Sue is far from enthusiastic about her new companion, but Linda immediately begins attempting to organize every aspect of her life.

Episode 2 – The Charity Shop Disaster

Sue volunteers to help at a local charity shop, hoping to enjoy a normal day outside the house.

Unfortunately, Linda’s attempts to assist turn the experience into a complete disaster.

Meanwhile, Sue tries to support Michael during an important event involving his wife, Renee.

Episode 3 – A Trip to the Seaside

Linda decides that Sue should scatter her late husband’s ashes by the sea.

The emotional journey takes an unexpected turn when the pair visit a questionable funfair.

At the same time, Linda interferes with Michael’s ambitions to perform music at an open-mic event.

Episode 4 – Family Dinner

Sue organizes a family dinner for Michael and Renee, hoping to bring everyone together.

However, the evening becomes increasingly uncomfortable when the couple’s true reason for visiting is revealed.

When the situation threatens to spiral out of control, Linda unexpectedly steps in.

Episode 5 – Camping Under the Stars

Linda persuades Sue to go camping so they can watch a spectacular meteor shower.

What should have been a peaceful outdoor adventure becomes another chaotic experience thanks to Linda’s unconventional approach to helping.

Meanwhile, Michael receives troubling news that threatens his future.

Episode 6 – Saying Goodbye?

With Michael unemployed and back at home, he decides that Linda has become more trouble than she is worth.

He believes the robot should be removed from Sue’s life.
