About the Series

Set against the changing landscapes of early twentieth-century California, East of Eden follows the intertwined lives of two families whose destinies become connected through love, rivalry, ambition, and tragedy.

The story begins with the Trask family, where two brothers, Adam and Charles, grow up under the influence of their powerful and demanding father, Cyrus.

Although they share the same family background, the brothers develop very different personalities and relationships with the world around them.

Adam is thoughtful and idealistic, while Charles struggles with jealousy, resentment, and his desire for their father’s approval.

Their already complicated relationship becomes even more difficult when Cathy Ames enters their lives.

Beautiful, intelligent, and deeply mysterious, Cathy possesses an extraordinary ability to influence the people around her.

Her relationship with Adam leads to marriage and the creation of a family, but her hidden past and complicated personality gradually threaten the stability of their household.

As the Trask family grows, the next generation inherits the consequences of earlier decisions.

The story introduces Cal and Aron, Adam’s twin sons, whose relationship reflects the continuing rivalry and moral conflicts that have shaped their family history.

Meanwhile, the Hamilton family provides another perspective on life in California’s Salinas Valley.

Samuel Hamilton, an Irish immigrant and thoughtful family patriarch, becomes an important presence in the lives of those around him.

Lee, the Trask family’s intelligent and compassionate valet, also plays a significant role, offering insight into the complicated relationships and moral questions that define the story.

As decades pass, the characters confront questions involving identity, forgiveness, family loyalty, and personal responsibility.

At its heart, East of Eden explores whether people are destined to repeat the mistakes of previous generations or whether they possess the freedom to choose a different path.
